This is commercially pure aluminum, 99% min pure. It is soft, ductile, and has excellent workability which makes it ideal for projects requiring challenging forming operations. It work-hardens slowly, and is not heat-treatable. It has excellent corrosion resistance and weldability, and is most often used in the food processing and chemical industries. Al 1100 is noted for having the highest thermal conductivity of any aluminum, and is also known for its high electrical conductivity.

This series of aluminium alloys are chosen in fabrication practices primarily due to the materials corrosion resistance, this makes the alloy useful in applications such as pressurised vessels and chemical tanks. 1000 series aluminium alloys are weldable, however certain considerations should be made before welding due to the materials narrow melting range.
Characteristics of 1000 series aluminium alloy sheet:
1000 series aluminium alloys are used in a wide range of applications including electrical and chemical applications. The alloys offer a combination of high corrosion resistance with high thermal and electrical conductivity. Other characteristics of the series include excellent workability and low mechanical properties. Strength can be moderately improved with stain hardening. This range of aluminium alloy products is normally designated as non-heat treatable.

1xxx series: Provide corrosion resistance, good formability, weldability and conductivity.
3xxx series: Exhibit moderate resistance to atmospheric and chemical agents, and offer higher mechanical properties and better formability than pure aluminium.
5xxx series: Typically used in applications in which corrosion resistance, high strength, good response to surface treatment, and good surface finish are required. 5xxx series alloys respond well to gloss variations achieved by etching or brightening, and the final aesthetic finish obtained after anodising. They also offer excellent formability and good weldability.
8xxx series: Offer a combination of properties similar to 1xxx series alloys but with higher strength, better formability, and improved stiffness. 8xxx series alloys are normally suitable for thinner gauge applications.
